Young Men More Sensitive Than Women To Relationship Quality?

Posted Jun 19, 2012 by Freshhh in All Articles

When I received the link to this article in my email yesterday, I read the title then immediately shrugged off the notion that men could ever be “more sensitive” than women in any relationship/dating scenario. However, the wording in this article hit the nail on the head for me. The author of this article states that “while young women are more affected by their relationship status– that is, whether they are in one or not– young men are more sensitive to relationship quality, such as how supportive or straining it is”.

I couldn’t agree with this statement more. Women are nine times out of ten mainly concerned with finding a man and maintaining a relationship, whereas we see men more concerned with the drama and day to day stresses of their relationship. The study used in this article details how, when in a rocky relationship, there are significantly greater problems with substance abuse and dependence among men… the main reason for this being societal norms dictating that while women are free to express their feelings and be emotional, men turn to mood-altering substances to get rid of those feelings that are not culturally excepted. Therefore “women tend to react by becoming depressed and anxious, while men develop substance-abuse problems and antisocial behavior”.

Quite the quick and interesting read.. Check it out HERE
