40 Days, 40 Habits You Should Break; Day #3: Publicizing Negative Feelings

Piggybacking off of Bad Habit #2, today’s bad habit goes hand-in-hand with being superconnected. I feel that for as many tweets and statuses as I read on a daily basis, a vast majority of them are negative. People are constantly complaining, hating on others, detailing their recent break-ups, and much more over social media and it has become one of our generation’s most problematic habits. Although you feel like publicizing these feelings is a way to vent, what you don’t realize is that you are only opening the floodgates for others to make assumptions about the events in your life, not to mention your mental stability. This is exactly how rumors get started; people read these tweets and statuses, make assumptions about them and you, then go consult with someone else that knows you… which leads you to have two people forming inaccurate conclusions about you and your personal life.  You already know that folks are nosey as hell and will look for any reason to break you down or highlight imperfections in your life… stop giving them the ammunition they need to criticize you.  Got something negative to say? KEEP IT TO YOURSELF!! In fact, just play it safe and keep all of the details to your personal life off of these social media platforms. First off, these people aren’t really your “friends”, no matter what facebook tries to tell you. Secondly, every time you give these pseudo-friends tidbits of your life, they will just be waiting on the edge of their seats for something to go wrong in your world, even if that means they have to stir the shit themselves. Not to mention you look stupid tweeting about you and your perfect relationship one day then tweeting a week later about what an ass your ex is…

Still wondering why people think you’re cray cray??
