Bad Habit #2: Being Superconnected

In a world where we as a people send 200 million tweets and upload 300 million photos to Facebook per day, you’d imagine that there aren’t enough hours in a day. The reality is, we as a society just stay glued to our mobile devices non-stop. Of course, there is nothing wrong with being connected… most of our everyday functions revolve around emails and apps. But there has to be a time when we put the phone down and just take a second to enjoy whatever it is that we are doing without feeling the need to have to take a picture and post it to instagram. I feel that this bad habit really irks me when I am out to dinner with someone (friends, family, on a date, etc.) and they have their phone on the table, staring at it waiting for the next message to roll in, eager for the food to come so that they can post a photo of it. Put the phone away. We are only at dinner for an hour or two at most, and of course checking your phone is cool, but the constant need to have to keep checking up on it is ridiculous. We need to start enjoying each other’s company more. Engaging fully with the person you are out with not only makes the experience just that much better, it is sort of the point of making plans with that person in the first place.  You ain’t missing a damn thing on twitter or facebook or in your inbox during this couple of hours, trust me. Stop being rude and just make conversation… if you are running to your phone to check your timeline and newsfeed every two seconds, it says a lot about your ability to hold a mature and stimulating conversation with someone. It really makes you look needy and disrespectful to whomever you are with. Force yourself to get out of this habit and take the time to truly enjoy your time out with people by getting to know them better and enjoying yourself without being preoccupied with the same tweets that will be there after dinner is over in an hour anyway. Break this habit!!!
