Bad Habit #19: Having Low Self-Esteem
I think it’s safe to say that a lot of people’s bad habits are a result of their low levels of self-esteem, and the fact that we live in a society that’s so hung up on physical appearance doesn’t really help the cause. Self-esteem issues stemming from physical appearance can lead us to all types of issues about other parts of our lives, which is understandable. What I have learned over the years, which has subsequently led me to having a great level of self-esteem, is the fact that there is only one me and I have a lot to offer; if I’m not my biggest fan or constantly hyping myself up, who will? That confidence I have in myself protrudes onto others in a positive way, which helps my self-esteem exponentially. I try to tell people who have minimal self-esteem that they have to take control of the things in their lives that are the causes of this problem. If being physically unsatisfied with yourself causes you to be down and out on a regular basis, do something about it. Changing the things you can change, or at least making efforts to, can make all the world of a difference in how you (and others) see yourself. Attempt to discover who you are, highlight your strengths, and stop pushing your weaknesses to the forefront of your mind; no one is perfect, and you shouldn’t try to be. I know a lot of these things are easier said than done, but I promise you that even making efforts towards a better you will improve your mindset and help you out in the long run.
